You're Dune!
by Frank Herbert
You have control over a great wealth of resources, but no one wants to let you have them. You've decided to try to defend yourself, but it may take eons before you really get back what you feel you deserve. Meanwhile you have a cult-like following of minions waiting for your life to progress. This would all be even more exciting if you could just get the sand out of your eyes.

I am so very ready for it be winter break. I screwed up submitting an assignment on webct and that made feel dumb but my TA said she would still grade it even though I submitted it for another assignment. ah well. Oh! and I was checking to make sure that all my sections were still available for next semester and my chemm section was full. so I had to completely redo my schedule. grrr.... upperclassmen get to register before me and the athletes register before them. and I only have 7 credits so I at the end but not the absolute end. so I guess it could be worse. I'm only going to have one 8am class which makes me happy. :-D my english101 class got canceled because my teacher has strep throat so I don't have to do all that work until Monday night. I'm such a procrastinator but I have trouble getting work done when the deadline is so far away.
Sat, Nov. 20th, 2004, 07:32 pm "Dude, no"
That is exactly what I said to the guy who thought my door was a toilet. I heart college. ;-D
You're Georgia!
For you, life is just peachy. You've been growing a lot lately and have really invested yourself in some major companies. You prefer Coke over Pepsi, CNN over other stations, and always fly Delta. This brand loyalty seems to be pulling away from your deepest roots, but that's part of growing. You are utterly terrified of fire. Just an old sweet song keeps you on others' minds.

So here is what I've been doing this week. Monday~ I don't really get much done on Monday's. I have class 8-9, 11-12:30, 1-2, 4-6:30. the last one is a killer not because it's a lit class but because it's SOOO long and late in the day. My honors colloquium is 11-12:30 and we went to the library to begin just about the only project I'll ever have to do in that class. It's called a Library Quest because it's research in the library and you go and the librarians talk to you about how to use the library technology. So much of it's online, the university subscribes to journals in every discipline if they offer it as a major you can find a journal on it in the library. but it was really cool and useful information, that believe I will be using whenever I need to write a paper. Take for example the fact that the first 1 floors of the library are open 24 hr a day sunday-thursday. (they know college kids go out on the weekends and don't think that the students would really need/want to go the library) Tuesday~ I turned in my first paper in english 101. we'll see how that goes... I'm not really sure what to expect since it's the first paper. It was kinda funny no one in my english class wanted to be there. every time Dr. Barks would ask the class something no one would volunteer an answer for a few minutes. So she gave up on trying to get us to talk and let us go early. which was good for me since I have my chemistry lab right after english. so I stopped by the south campus diner and got a muffin to eat on my way to lab. this time in lab we were doing more than just measuring water. they started doing chemical reactions. apparently since my lab is on tuesday lecture is about a day behind. so there was stuff I didn't know stuff but I have an awesome TA he was like if you guys ever have any questions email me or come to my office hours and if I'm helping someone else just wait till I'm done I teach you guys and so I your more important to me than the other people. I got some free food from the wonderful animal science faculty and staff. Every year they have a cook off and compete for student votes. some of it was pretty good. I really like the potatoe casserole side dish and the frozen tundra cheesecake. Wednesday~ Chemistry exam is getting closer... 8 am friday morning I will be taking my first exam. we have assigned seats and I'm NOT to use a graphing calculator because they are programmable and therefore I could program notes in it and cheat. So I went out and bought my non programmable calculator. In lecture we moved on to new stuff but the test will still be friday. Fortunately it's my only class on friday and the equestrian team is having a barn cleaning weekend so I'll be over there forgetting about chemistry all day. And now for the fun stuff we did in lab.... you may want to skip this some of you may not want to read about digestive systems. (I tried to put it behind a lj cut but all it told was there was a fatal error so just skip the next paragraph) ( Animal Science Lab ) I love animal science lab it;s always fun. I ran back to my room to see if anyone had responded to my email about switching riding days so I could go to hershey park. unfortunately no one had so I called both girls who were on the contact list. one never answered and the other said she couldn't switch. so I'm not going to hershey park this weekend. it;s probably for the better since I have an animal science test next wednesday. and I won't be studying at all for that until after the chemistry exam. I went to the first look fair, where I was cornered by this little asian lady who wanted me to do bible study. :-\ but I got info about ballroom dancing and the terrapin trail club.

After two weeks of class I can tell you that I actually like my english class. english has never been my thing but I like my professor and she's really enthusiastic. I have to write an extend definition as my first paper. the draft is due on Tuesday so I really should start it but I'm being lazy and avoiding it. I had to read frankenstein for my literature class. it's actually not bad but I got tired of all the descriptions, especially since I only had a week in which to read it. but I finished it last night and that's just one less thing I have to do today. My lit class is an honors seminar and only meets once a week, which is nice, except that it's 4-6:30. Mondays are long days for me I really enjoyed it last week when I didn't have class on monday and no chemistry lab. :-) But tomorrow I'm in for a long day
- CHEM @ 8-9
- HONR colloquium@ 11-12:30
- Animal Science @ 1-2
- Lit class @ 4-6:30
I just don't like mondays I hope my schedule isn't like this next semester. In other news Maryland beat Temple 44-22. At one point Temple only had 2 total yards and Maryland had like 94. I couldn't help but laugh at Cranston's school. since they played on 9-11 the bands played God Bless America together which was nice. but the temple flag girls sucked two of the girls kept screwing up and turning in the opposite direction of everyone else.

well i'm going to try to actually update this on a regular basis. so yesterday they had a welcome for the new students at the Comcast Center. It was pretty nice the band played and the cheerleaders were there cheering. They tried to teach us the maryland victory song but that was a little unorganized. I ended up sitting a part from the Denton community (which I where I live) because there weren't enough seats in our section for everyone. Afterwords they handed out box dinners which consisted of cold (like straight from the refrigerator) fried chicken, a small roll, cole slaw, watermelon, and a brownie. Not the greatest dinner I've ever had but I eat the cold chicken. Needless to say it was gross. there was a carnival in the comcast center that I went to. I watched my friends Kevin and Sara, who reminds me of Mandy Coleman, attempt the rat race (an inflatable obstacle course that was a little more complex than the one at post prom). There wasn't much else to do so since Kevin has a car and he needed a laptop lock and I needed printer paper we decided to got to staples. unfortunately Kevin is from New Jersey and since he didn't know the area he thought the staples was on the left (he said he knew since he had been there before). he was wrong so we looked at target and as I suspected they didn't have one but I got my paper there since I had a gift card and it wouldn't cost me any cash. I don't have my ATM card for SECU, which is down here so cash is in short supply. When we came back we got back to campus we went to see Mean Girls which was pretty cute. so today rachel came to ask if I wanted to go a yard sale at 9. needless to say I was asleep. Katie answered the door, I didn't even hear Rachel knocking, and apparently only opened it a crack. and when rachel asked if I could come to a yard sale the reply was that I was sleeping and then she closed the door. Rachel said that when she was just going to write on the message board she heard the click of the lock locking. after that I got up since Rachel woke me up and my roommate decided she was really hunger so I suggested the co-op (organic/vegetarian/vegan food) might be openunfortunately it wasn't. so I went to the book center and attempted to get my lab book for chem103 but instead I picked up the book for chem113. however in my defense I must say that the 113 book was located directly under the 103 textbook and sign for chem103. later I went to "breakfast" (the diner doesn't open until 11) with Sheila and Kristen and we attempted to find our classes. however because it's saturday most of the buildings were closed and it was really hot so we gave up. we did manage to find kristen's music class though. I went to dinner with rachel, sheila, jason, skippy, and their friend corry after watching skippy play DDR. oh and I just got back from watching a hypnotist and going to the RHA (residence hall assoc.) dance which sucked.
Thu, Aug. 26th, 2004, 09:15 pm College
Well I moved into my spacious 12 x 14 (almost) room that I share with a girl named Katie. It was crazy moving all that stuff in here. My dad and I got here first and unrolled the carpet (which required moving all the furniture to one side of the room and then moving it back). Which wouldn't have been so bad except that the humidity was at like 90%. Needless to say I was sweating for like 2 or 3 hours while everything was unloaded from the van and then moved into my room. Since I now live on the second floor of Denton we carried everything that could be carried up the stairs. it literally looked like an explosion had gone off in my room. I had stuff EVERYWHERE. slowly but surely it all got put away and the boxes and suitcases went out to the car and I was left with my room as it is now. the walls are a little bare but I need to get this stuff called "Hold It" it's like tacky glue. It's also the only thing we're allowed to use on the walls lest we might chip the paint. I know it's shocking that I might even think to use masking tape on the walls.
there was an honors pool party at 8 which I skipped to play Cranium in Ellicot with a bunch of gemstone kids. It was hilarious. I had never played cranium before, in fact my whole team hadn't played it before. but fun was had all around. I came back here to find a note on my desk from my roommate saying "Hey Anne, no idea where you are but I went to the pool." I'm sure how things will work out with her. She's kinda strange. She doesn't drink soda or eat pizza or watch TV. she's afraid of bunked beds and heights and she doesn't like waking up to the sound of strange voices... Sun, Aug. 8th, 2004, 02:42 pm Hiking
Yesterday I went hiking with Elise and Dan at Cromwell. When I got there I go to pull into the parking lot and the "gate" (it would be so easy to just drive around it) was closed. So I parked my car and got out and talked to Dan until Elise showed up. We decided to sneak in the back way by Tina's house. They had posted another sign there about the park being closed but we were like "We're goin anyway. If they catch us we'll just tell then we're illiterate and don't speak english." Afterwords we went to Rita's and we saw Tony, who was supposedly going to come with us at KFC. So we said hi to Tony and Chris. After they left we took some pictures with my digital camera. on the way to dan's house elise was in the back taking more pictures. She tried to take a picture of Season's Pizza and completely missed. Here are the PicturesSat, Jul. 17th, 2004, 05:58 pm
So I guess I should update this. I just got back from whitewater rafting and canoing with the University of Maryland. It was loads of fun. I fell in three times. Once canoing, our canoe tipped dumping Kelsey and me into the water. So we had to drag the canoe full of water through the rapids to the shore so we could dump the water out and get back in. Then the next day rafting I fell out of the raft when we hit so rocks. It was kinda fun because Stacie grabbed me but I went over anyway. We had made bets about how many people were going to fall out before we got onto the river. Three people fell out due to rapids, Josh, one of the trip leaders knocked Gene, our faculty member, out while pulling someone else who had gone swimming in, and Keri got pulled out of the raft by a bunch of little kids. And on the last day a couple of us went to go see the natural water slides and I slipped and fell in but luckily it wasn't deep so only my butt got wet. But it was pretty funny.
Fri, Jun. 18th, 2004, 12:31 am Graduations
Well I went up to New Jersey yesterday (Wednesday) after Beth got home from school for my cousins graduation. He's a cool guy and since he came to mine I went to his. It was at an arena and there were like 400 some kids in his class so it was kinda long with long speeches. But I got to talk to my other cousin James and Joe's girlfriend Melissa. They're both loads of fun to just talk with or in Melissa's case giggle with. My uncle has Muscular Dystrophy and he fell like a week ago and broke his knee cap so he was confined to the first floor of their house and has a huge brace on, he couldn't have a cast because of his muscular dystrophy. Unfortunately my uncle;s fall has really gotten Joe to think about the possibility that he could have muscular dystrophy too. It's apparently been bothering him a lot. His grandmother was going to have a talk with him about how he shouldn't have kids because of the possibility that he could pass it on to his kids. I personally believe that since you can test as having a lot of the enzyme that causes it but not have I don't think he should worry about it. Especially not now, my uncle didn't start showing signs of it until after my cousins were born. Beth is leaving on Father's Day for Ohio where she will be the nanny. She;s even planning on preparing dinner. She's says it'll be on the table at 6:30 every night... or so she claims now. The plans for when and how she'll be returning haven't been made clear to me because they haven't been made. Ha! She's never coming back... it would actually be quiet at times in my house without Beth. She always has to have lots of things running at the same time. (i.e. playing a gamehouse game, talking to several people via IMs, "watching" TV or a movie, and occasionally on the phone at the same time) I'll enjoy the quiet while she's gone but I'll miss her too. She is my sister and I do love her but lately she's been really annoying and at times mean.
Sun, Jun. 6th, 2004, 10:24 pm I'm home!
Well I'm certainly not as good at updating but then I don't know that anyone is. Well let's see what has happened since I last updated? ... a lot. Prom was fun. I can't load any pictures right now because I just got my new computer set up and the printer/scanner/fax/copier is not set up and this computer doesn't have a floppy drive because it doesn't have a tower. Everyone looked so good. Eugene had two plates at dinner because he was so hunger and he even made sure that they didn't take the second plate while we were dancing. It was definitely a good time. Elise can to Post Prom and we got in the mooon bounce. I happen to have in my possession I picture of Mrs. Ward, Mrs. Erdman, and Mrs. Lambert in the moon bounce. I won $50 to Target at Post Prom as well as walkie-talkies and $25 to Best Buy. At rehersal my mom gave out a couple more prizes to the people who helped with post prom and I won a web cam, which I have not set up yet.
My Aunt Jennifer, my cousins Joe and James, and Joe's girlfriend Melissa came to graduation. As well as our family friend's from South Jersey and my dad's brother and his wife. Graduation felt so short, not that I would have wanted it to be hours long but still it seemed to fly by considering how important an event it really was. The Saulsbery's (family friends from South Jersey) brought four signs that spelled my name to hold up when I crossed the stage. Mrs. Lassen flipped out when Jenny didn't go up when the line got short, she was doing exactly what she was supposed to but you know Mrs. Lassen. Oh well. Mr. Hugus had to go up and explain to her what she should have known. After the ceremony we came back to my house and had food. After most of the people left I went over to Jill's for a little while. I couldn't stay long because the Saulsbery's were still at my house. I watched crochet while signing yearbooks and "played" badminten with Elise. Neither one of us was all that good but as usual we had fun.
Sunday I left for Seattle. I flew to Newark and from there straight to Seatttle. Needless to say that was a LONG flight. I had so much fun in the Seattle. I talked a lot with my Aunt Sharon and got to know her a little better. While I was there my cousin Christopher lost his second tooth and was stung by a wasp for the first time. He's five and loves to build stuff and create "systems." His systems do all sorts of stuff but are usually made with simple stuff like extension cord and radios and that sort of stuff. It doesn't actually do what he claims, like he had an ice cream maker made out of old bungee cords. One day he'll be an engineer. Whereas his little brother is far more easy going and even colors outside of the lines and mixes the colors. Miller is three and so silly. I told him if he climbed onto the back of the couch I would tickle his toes so he would act like he was going to climb there and then squeal when I looked at him. As long as you put the DVD in the DVD player he can turn it on and even pick the chapter he wants and the kid can't even read yet! I'm still a little jet lagged but soon I will be back to normal.
Mrs. Burton today told my mom that there's a lady who used to teach at PIne Grove Middle who lives on Sharon Road who used horses and does stuff with handicap kids who is looking for some extra help. So maybe I'll get a job there. The vet isn't doing interviews until mid-June and they may not hire me but then again the lady with the horses may not call me either. But she might! I certainly cannot spend the summer at home with Beth, she's annoying when she's bored. And she couldn't possibly entertain herself, ever. So we shall see.

AP Spanish tomorrow. I'm a little nervous and at the same time I don't really care. More than likely I won't get a 4 which I need for credit at UMDCP. At the saturday session when we came and took the 1998 AP I was the only one that got a 3 in Mrs. Lassen's class, which sucked. However I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter at all since I'll only get a three and so what if I'm the only one. I'm unique. I have always known this but this just proves it's true. AP Calc is tomorrow I feel quite confident in my ability to handle that test. So many people have dropped it this year. But I think it'll be OK. I won't even worry about that too much until tomorrow, after spanish. AP studio~ I'm a little concerned that I didn't get my slides today. I really need them to be there by tomorrow so I can see what I need. I think I only need one more concentration piece, I hope. See I REALLY REALLY need to know what I have and what I need. Especially since tomorrow is the VERY LAST day I can turn in work for slides. But next all I have to do in the spanish novel by tuesday and a 5 page paper for engineering, which shouldn't be too bad and which will take care of my final in that class.
Senior assembly was today. My mom was there but she was so quiet. It made me a little mad that people were talking while she was, people I know. She'll be so happy when post prom is over and she actually have free time again and spend far more time on the phone than Beth and me combined. People told her she should be PTSA president next year. Ha ha my father has already told her she can't do post prom next year.
We get cap and gown stuff at graduation rehearsal. It's hard to believe that I only have 18 more days of school left. But what's harder to believe is that by this time next I will have taken AP spanish. But I feel more prepared for spanish than calc. I know the calc stuff but I still get things mixed up and confused or I forget a step. I'm not sure that my portfolio will be ready for the 7th I still more slides and pieces. 3 quality, 5 breadth, 4 (I think) concentration. unfortunately I was forced to do portraits for my concentration. I really do hate drawing people. The worst part is that most of my pieces are self portraits, which are even worse because I have the most awful nose to draw. Thu, Apr. 22nd, 2004, 03:36 pm
Surprisingly mostly true. Although I'm not sure athletic ability is my gift or what "overweening arrogance" means. |
